The Age of Ads

If you’re a returning visitor to this site, you may notice something a little different. (Or, more likely, it won’t even register because you’re so used to it from everywhere else on the Internet.)

Yep, we have ads now. And as much as we’ve love to provide a pristine, ad-free experience unlike anything else on the web, this has actually always been the plan. We just weren’t able to do it earlier. (I still don’t know why, but our earlier submission was rejected and it seemed like it would never happen, until it did.) Running any website costs a decent chunk of money, and for the time being, there are few ways to make that money back other than ads.

Until now, we’ve sunk money into this site unsure if we could ever make it back, because it’s worth it to us. We’re passionate about doing our part to make life easier for people with allergies. And we’re also just passionate about really good food in general.

Truthfully, we have no idea how this works. We’re not interested in jumping through hoops to maximize SEO and game the algorithms. We don’t know if this will even come close to making our money back, let alone turning a profit. But hopefully it will help.

In the meantime, you can help us. If you see any ads that seem inappropriate for our site, or you’re encountering too many, or you have any other suggestions about how we can improve the experience, please let us know. We can’t make any promises, because a lot of this stuff is not really under our control. But we don’t necessarily see the same things you’re seeing, and the more we know about what you’re seeing, the more likely we are to be able to make adjustments where we can.
